It’s Black Friday when the “Shopocalypse” hits. A global outbreak turns online shoppers into shopping zombies, and a group of shoppers are forced to quarantine at ShopMo. When our very existence is threatened, can we join together and learn from past mistakes? Can we forego instant gratification to preserve the future? Or will we just go shopping?
BLACK FRIDAY is interactive & semi-immersive; a new theatrical experience for adventurous audiences.
This show has a cast of 7 actors, and the audience are the other ShopMo shoppers. They’ll sing, dance, chant, and clap along, and participate in other unexpected ways throughout the show.
The show’s satirical themes are sweetened with a whip-smart script and biting humor (literally). There’s a deeper message, but it’s also just bloody good fun.
The score sounds like Lady Gaga meets Andrew Lloyd Webber. The music is infectious, with hook-laden songs backed by a rock band with 80s-inspired synth, updated with fresh and current electronic production. Imagine “Rocky Horror Show” or “Bat Boy, The Musical” meets Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” with an injection of Huxley’s Brave New World.

The show is finished (at least for now) with 2 acts and 23 songs. In Zoom readings, actors broke into fits of laughter, so that’s a good sign!
I’ve already secured two investors who have provided funding for demos and music arranging, and the recording process is well underway.
The next step will be a staged reading or workshop, to get the show on its feet in front of an audience.
Beyond that, I’m looking for the right Shopper to buy into this show and help me bring it to life. Robyn Cage:
Composer, Lyricist, Librettist
Robyn Cage is a singer, songwriter, actress, and self-professed shopaholic. A graduate of The Boston Conservatory with a BFA in Musical Theatre, she went on to become an accomplished actress in NYC, where her performances earned praise from The New York Times and Variety.
Cage’s powerful vocals have commanded stages nationwide, from soloing with the Boston POPS in Boston’s Symphony Hall to Austin City Limits and the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater.
On stage, Robyn originated leading roles in Bookends at The York Theatre and Transport at Irish Rep. Other favorite roles include Sheila in Hair, Miranda in The Tempest, and Johanna in Sweeney Todd. On film, Robyn played supporting roles in “The Freemason” (with Sean Astin), Hallmark’s “Love in the Limelight” and “My Christmas Love,” and “Code of Honor” (Steven Seagal). She has appeared in national campaigns for Homie, ReBath, and AAA, along with hundreds of commercial and voiceover projects.
When Cage’s interest turned to songwriting, she moved back to her native Utah. For her debut album, she collaborated with Grammy-nominated producers Dan Burns (Michelle Branch) and Darryl Neudorf (Sarah McLachlan). “Born in the Desert” topped Music Connection Magazine’s Best New Music of 2016. Her sophomore release “Slow The Devil” earned Best Indie Album of 2018 from Scorpius Magazine. Cage’s acoustic piano interpretations of famous songs have garnered millions of views, and her cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” went viral on Facebook.
Cage’s songs can be heard in Tyler Perry’s “Nobody’s Fool” starring Whoopi Goldberg, “FRIES! The Movie” with Malcolm Gladwell, MTV’s “16 and Pregnant,” and numerous commercials.
Her extensive touring includes international performances with Brit Floyd (“The World’s Greatest Pink Floyd Show,” according to Rolling Stone), The Airplane Family (alumni of Jefferson Airplane), and with her own band.
Currently, Cage is touring with Brit Floyd and developing her new BLACK FRIDAY musical for the stage. In her free time, she loves skiing, mountain biking, and of course… shopping.
Callie Crofts & Zac Bryant:
Music Production, Orchestration, Arranging
By night, songwriter and bassist Callie Crofts and drummer Zac Bryant are two halves of the edgy and cerebral electropop duo Die Shiny. By day, they are the music production partners behind Nine Moon Audio, a full production music studio. The prolific pair have produced several albums in multiple projects and even reached top-10 status on Billboard charts.
Nine Moon Audio harnesses the couple’s combined history of creative work in the worlds of Alternative and Progressive Rock, Folk, Americana, Pop, and Indie Electronica. With ample experience as live and studio instrumentalists on the drums, guitar, bass, and synthesizers – alongside full production skills in recording, mixing, and mastering – there is little in the world of modern music that this powerful team can’t accomplish. |
