Since its origins, tango filled a feeling of loneliness among immigrants. Today when people don’t have the words to connect across diverse perspectives and backgrounds, tango still brings people together in an artistic encounter of self-expression, no matter who they are, where they come from, or whether they speak the same language.

Tango Tonight! draws from the rich tradition of Argentine tango, weaving it into a contemporary musical with romance, betrayal and redemption. We see tango’s lessons as a metaphor for living, and a unifying force to embrace humanity. Diversity and inclusion are central themes. Six of the nine characters are Latinx.

Logline: To win the woman he loves and first prize at a world competition, a professional tango dancer severs ties with a con artist “agent” -until the police and his checkered past catch up with him.

Joy Kosta (book writer) and Bob Merrill (composer) have worked on Tango Tonight! for nearly ten years and formed an LLC to further their creative collaboration with investors.

Table reads: Artistree community theatre, Northern Stage, professional theatre

Staged concert reading: Pentangle Arts, Woodstock, Vermont    The Vermont Standard called Tango Tonight! “a love letter to the musical style.”

Artists and advisors from the disciplines of theatre and dance have consistently expressed enthusiasm that we develop the work to its full potential. In Sept 2024 Tango Tonight! had a public staged concert reading that brought an audience of 250 to their feet with a positive talk back and donations.

Our next step is a developmental workshop.

I really had no choice but to do this.”
