“They were warmly attached to each other, and each was the best friend which the other had in this world. But during all these years neither of them had visited the other in his country home.”
Some nice fun scenes and compelling conflict between two earnest friends, but there are some essential scenes which would be very tricky to stage. (A horse-and-carriage falling in a river and the need to follow the characters UNDER the water; a long trek across land in which a horse tows a BOAT, etc.) If you’re not afraid of the difficult stagecraft, you might be interested in the characters who are both rather sweet, if two-dimensional.
