Originate + Generate (O+G), Aurora’s program for the development of new works, builds upon the successes of Aurora’s Global Age Project. With O+G, Aurora serves as an incubator of new works, offering extensive personalized support to local playwrights and theatre creators as they craft their pieces specifically for Aurora’s stages.
Originate + Generate shifts our focus from discovery to full-on development, including commissions, workshops, readings, and full productions of new plays. Every year, theatre artists are selected and given the opportunity of creating new work via a process of their own devising. They are given the financial help, resources and space to create work specifically for Aurora’s stages. In line with Aurora’s mission, special emphasis will be given to local theatre artists.

Additional info regarding script submissions: Aurora Theatre Company does not accept unsolicited script submissions. If you would like to submit to Aurora, please be sure your script fits our guidelines (below) and then send an email to literary@auroratheatre.org with “Script Query” in the subject line. In the body of the email, please tell us the title of your script, the number of actors it requires, and a synopsis of no more than about 100 words, along with the script’s development and production history and a brief playwright biography. No attachments. You will be contacted if we are interested in reading your script; please do not contact us to ask about your submission status. No phone calls.
Guidelines
- No more than eight actors
- At least eighty minutes in length
- We prefer scripts that emphasize language and provide opportunities for detailed, nuanced acting, as opposed to plays that emphasize visual spectacle or are highly stylized
- Aurora’s audience tends to be highly educated and politically aware and enjoys scripts that engage on an intellectual as well as a visceral level
