Description:
BWBTC’s international playwriting competition, founded in 2005 to increase the number of quality scripts featuring fighting roles for women. Since its inception, JS&P has been sponsored by Fight Master David Woolley, SAFD.
The winner receives the Margaret W. Martin Award: the play undergoes development via BWBTC’s Fighting Words program prior to premiering as part of an upcoming BWBTC season, and the playwright receives a $1,000 cash prize.
All submissions must be new, original works, inspired by the artwork that is the focus of the contest. Previously written, workshopped, published or performed submissions will not be considered and we will not contact you.

Submissions accepted only during the competition window. Joining Sword & Pen 2020-2021 launched August 5, 2020 and closes February 18, 2021.
Check back in August for the 2022 deadline.
As of January 2023, there have been no updates about their contest since 2021.
2024 contest is due April 16th.
2024 is closed. No updates on 2025.
